A smoke detector is one form of an alarm that can be a lifesaver. Smoke detectors are placed in homes to warn occupants of a potential fire before it is too late to escape. Smoke detectors are also essential to schools. Although fires may be a rare occurrence, fire alarms are often used in drills to prepare students in the case of a real emergency. Smoke detectors are also common in all other building including restaurants, office, buildings, and retail stores. Families are encouraged to change the batteries each year in their smoke detectors to keep them in good working condition.
Car alarms can prevent people from breaking into our cars. Some car alarms are more sensitive than others and can be set off by the slightest movement. Some alarms honk while others have more of a beeping sound. Many people find car alarms to be an annoyance because they tend to be set off regularly when no one is trying to break in. Air, wind, rain, and planes flying over are all things which can set off car alarms. Nonetheless, car alarms are usually offered as options on most cars these days.
Burglar alarms protect houses from burglars trying to break in. With a contract from an alarm company, homeowners can have an alarm installed in several places throughout their homes. The alarms will beep once whenever a door or window is opened in the house. When a person enters the house, if the alarm code is not entered, the alarm will sound within a given amount of time. Depending on the company, a phone call may be made to the house to determine that everything is okay. If no one responds, the local police may be contacted. Homeowners are charged on a monthly basis for this service. Burglar alarms deter many thieves from attempting to break into a house. To many people the piece of mind greatly outweighs the costs.
Alarm clocks help people wake up in the morning. Alarms can be beneficial to everyone from students waking up for school to parents getting up for work. Most alarms are equipped with a snooze button, which will allow the person to sleep for a set amount of time before the alarm sounds again. Alarms can be analog or digital. They can be set to radio or a more obnoxious beeping or buzzing sound. Many clock radios have two alarms so that different members of the household can each set their own personal alarm. Without these types of alarms, many people risk missing important events or possibly getting fired from their jobs.
Many people find alarms to be an annoyance. It is important to stop and realize the benefits that come with alarms. Without alarms, our lives would be less safe and secure.
